A very good keyboard - Extensive Review

Ok, I have decided to extensively review the casio ctk-6000 keyboard. This was one of the most time consuming, and difficult instrument purchases I've made. I want to make a review that addresses all the questions I had, so it will help out others in the future. I am a recording musician. I compose my own music with guitar, bass, and drums. I wanted to get a keyboard to add ambience and extra flavor to my music. So, what I was looking for in a keyboard was a variety of tones, and the ability to personalize and tweak things. The casio ctk-6000 has a tone editor, where you can edit any of the 670 tones. You can change things such as vibrato, reverb, and volume etc. More importantly, there are 100 effects you can choose from to apply to a tone you make. The effects are cool, but limited. The coolest ones I have found are the wah's. You can store up to 10 personal tones. The tone editor is ok, but you can really only make effects that are basically phaser, chorus, flanger, distortion and wah. So it leaves a little to be desired as far as editing cababliity, but for the price I doubt you'll get any more editing capability with a different make or model. Moving on - I bought this model because I wanted a pitch wheel. It works well, and you can use it to bend your notes up and down similar to a whammy bar on a guitar. Next up - the little plastic wheel that you have to use to move through your tone banks. I have seen negative reviews on it. In my opinion, it's not bad - it's fairly smooth, you just have to get it moving. don't be afraid to scroll through things super fast - you almost have to in order to get to your tone quickly. You cannot enter in a number and go to your tone immediatley. I am basically storing 10 "go to" tones in my personalized tone bank. Next - split, layer, and arpeggiator. Split is cool, very basic. layer I also use, you can layer any tone, even personalized. The arpeggiator is really cool. You can select well over 100 different arpeggios that will play when a key is held down. You can select the tempo for each arpeggiation to cycle through at. There are scales, patters, rhythems etc. I will be using this quite often. Next up - Tones. The best tones on here are the organs, the synths, and the basses. The have some nice organ sounds, drawbar, rock, church, etc. The synths are cool, there is quite a variety - sawtooths, leads, pads, atmosphere, etc. They have a killer synth bass. The drums are also good quality. Lastly - The Extras. This came with - power adaptor, stand, headphones. The power adaptor is casio brand. The headphones are nady audio, and are decent. I am using them as a back-up pair. I anyone is playing music strictly through headphones, I recomment a high level pair of sennheiser's. The stand is fine, sturdy. If you are like me, you'll wonder why they didn't include any mounting screws. Don't worry, they are in the stand already, just check the bottoms of the legs, they should be there. : ) That pretty much covers all the questions I had before I bought this thing, that I now have answers for.

My son says this is an awesome keyboard and he will be able to use it to record and write the songs he likes to write. I listened to the sound and think it sounds really great.
